Ripslinger uses head start to beat elites in Iowa

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Iowa prep star Joy Ripslinger got a final chance to shine on her home turf before heading to the University of Arkansas.

Ripslinger was given a chance to represent the Iowans of all stripes Saturday at the Bix 7, which also served as the USATF 7 Mile Championships in Davenport.

And Ripslinger used a 2.25-mile head start to her advantage and beat all of the elites in the field, including men's winner Sam Chelanga

Ripslinger donated her $2,500 winnings to her high school track program (Assumption) and to a local foundation called Brittany's Gifts.
